The Paslew Tomb Stone is to be seen against the north wall of the aisle just outside the Chapel. Mr. Harrison Ainsworth, a novelist, maintains that is the Tomb of the last Abbot of Whalley, John Paslew, who was hanged after the suppression of the Rising the “Pilgrimage of Grace” in 1536. The Stone is a Memorial to a Priest, as the Chalice shows, and the initial “I” at the left hand bottom corner could stand for “John.” Unfortunately the opposite corner is broken off.
